What is the standards based approach?
Getting Started:
For starters, you may be wondering, "What is a wiki?" Think of a wiki as a website that anyone can help edit. You've all heard of Wikipedia. That is a public wiki that lets anyone contribute to adding information. We set up this particular wiki for educators interested in the standards-based approach to teaching and grading.. On the left side of this page, you will see a menu of pages available. When you click on a topic / page title, it will bring you to another page with all of that unit's resources. As a member of this wiki, you can view and edit every page.
While this page was originally designed to help Lincoln Public Schools teachers as they enter into the standards-based environment, it is our hope that other schools and systems will find value in our discussions and materials. This will make a good place to "house" all of our documents and keep us all on the same page. Feel free to add documents and links to any good resources. Do not upload any videos or PowerPoint presentations unless you are just linking or embedding them from another site. We only have 2 GB of storage! Also, you can add additional pages or change things however you like. We are all equal contributors with this site.
Come back to this OMS Science Wiki and click on the "Join" link at the top of the page. (As the owner of this wiki, I must approve everyone so we don't get random people editing our information.)
Once I approve you, you will be able to edit everything on this wiki from text and pictures to pages and widgets. It is similar to editing a document in Microsoft Word...very easy stuff!
If you have any questions, click on the "Discussion" link at the top left and I will help you out. Otherwise, feel free to Derek Pizzuto or stop by my room.
Wikispaces Video Tutorials
Click here to view some tutorials on how to use Wikispaces. They explain everything from the basics such as adding links and files to adding widgets.
Wikispaces for Educators
If you are interested in creating your own wikis to use in your classroom, go to the Wikispaces Educator site. It allows you to set up a free educator wiki (like this one). You can set it to private and can create student accounts that don't need email addresses to register.
Welcome to the Standards Based Teaching Wiki!
